ABS-CBN’s iWantTFC Brings '8th Eddys' to Global Viewers

THE 8th Eddys (Entertainment Editors’ Choice), a film awards show organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), will be streamed globally for the first time through a partnership with ABS-CBN’s iWantTFC.

The ceremony is set for July 20 at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport World Resorts, Pasay City. It will be simulcast on ABS-CBN’s iWantTFC, Kapamilya Channel, and Jeepney TV on July 27.

The partnership was formalized at the ABS-CBN headquarters in Quezon City, attended by Kane Errol Choa, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, and Ralph Menorca, head of ABS-CBN Programming and On-Air Operations.

“Our partnership feels like a coming home for The Eddys, since ABS-CBN was our media partner in the inaugural edition of our film awards show back in 2017,” said Salve Asis, president of SPEEd.

“With ABS-CBN’s global presence, we are confident that more people, especially Filipino communities across the globe, will witness how we recognize and give importance to the pillars and icons of Philippine cinema, as well as the people who keep this industry thriving.”

The Eddys will present 14 awards across performance and technical categories, with nominees drawn from films released in cinemas and on selected digital platforms in 2024.

A tribute segment will honor a new batch of Eddys Icons—veterans in acting, directing, and other areas of the local film industry. Special awards include the Isah V. Red Award, given to individuals who provide assistance to fellow Filipinos in need, and two honors for entertainment journalists: the Joe Quirino Award and the Manny Pichel Award.

SPEEd will also present the Rising Producer of the Year and Producer of the Year awards. The group will once again name Eddys Box Office Heroes, recognizing actors featured in the year’s highest-grossing local films for helping bring audiences back to cinemas.

Additional details about the upcoming ceremony will be announced closer to the event.

Launched in 2017, the Eddys is considered a major development in the country’s film awards landscape. SPEEd is composed of current and former entertainment editors from top Philippine newspapers and online platforms.

MTRCB Statement in Response to DGPI’s Remarks on SB No. 2805

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) calls out the Directors’ Guild of the Philippines, Inc. (DGPI) for its irresponsible claim that the Agency is being used as a “cash cow.”

This is an unfair and baseless claim. The MTRCB is a government agency with a clear mandate to protect the public, most especially children, from harmful content. To describe our mandate as profit-driven is both misleading and disrespectful to the 31 board members, many of whom the DGPI knows and may have worked with in the past.

The remark disrespects the dedicated men and women of the MTRCB who have devoted their careers to monitoring, reviewing and rating thousands of local and international materials to ensure they align with contemporary Filipino cultural values. These 31 Board Members are the ones who actually review and classify the materials submitted to the MTRCB.

We categorically reject this unfounded accusation. The MTRCB is a regulatory body created by law to classify content in a way that protects the viewing public, especially minors, while recognizing constitutional freedoms and respecting the rights of the public and the stakeholders we are duty bound to serve.

We also note that while Senate Bill No. 2805 was recently passed on third and final reading in the Senate, its counterpart measure in the House of Representatives has yet to be passed. With the 19th Congress ending next week, the measure is unlikely to be acted upon in the current Congress. This means the bill is still far from becoming law and presents ample opportunity for further scrutiny, refinement, and consultation.

We appeal to all stakeholders to approach this matter with reason and respect. We expect no less than civility from entities like the DGPI, which is not a government agency, especially in public discourse.

While the amendments in the recently-passed SB 2805 seek to include online streaming platforms and online curated content providers (OCCs) and streaming videos on-demand (SVOD), the Board does not seek to rate or review these materials. There is no prior restraint or a mandatory review before content is shown.

Rather, the measure seeks to ensure that the State is not left helpless in addressing valid concerns and issues such as harmful online contents, particularly materials involving child abuse, exploitation, or voyeurism. This is by way of appropriate mechanisms for cooperation between the MTRCB and OCCS and SVODs and adoption of safeguards such as “safety by design” principles, and the creation of structured feedback mechanisms and accountability.

Finally, we emphasize that MTRCB performs in duties under PD 1986 without censorship, without prior restraint, and with full respect to the constitutionally-guaranteed freedom of expression.

Trusted by the beauty queens: 'Bb. Pilipinas' chose My Daily Collagen as its exclusive wellness partner

WHEN it comes to beauty pageants, the spotlight often shines brightest on flawless skin, poise and stage presence.

But behind every crown-worthy performance is a demanding regimen that tests both body and mind throughout the competition.

That’s why for the 36 Binibining Pilipinas 2025 candidates, health and recovery are just as essential as charm and elegance. It’s also why the prestigious national pageant chose My Daily Collagen, which is at the forefront of J-beauty promotion in the country, as its exclusive wellness partner.

Ms. Anna Perez & Oliver Salas

“We’re very happy with this partnership. This is our second year. It wasn’t hard to tie up with Bb. Pilipinas because of their willingness to work with us,” shared Anna Perez, president of Global Wellness Enterprises, makers of My Daily Collagen, a proudly homegrown brand manufactured in Japan.

“We asked them why, and they said they believe in the quality of Japan-made products.”

That trust wasn’t given lightly. Binibining Pilipinas, a national institution for over 60 years, is known not just for producing world-class titleholders but also for keeping a tradition of excellence. For the organizers, choosing a partner wasn’t just about product appeal, it was about shared values.

Anna Perez, president of Global Wellness Enterprises

According to Oliver Salas, the brand’s chief sales officer, Bb. Pilipinas already had eyes on the brand, thanks to past queens who used the product and experienced its benefits firsthand.

He said, “Before Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. even approached us, they had already evaluated our product.

“They were very honest — they had looked at many collagen brands. But what convinced them was the trust built through past beauty queens who were already using My Daily Collagen.”

While collagen is known for its skin-enhancing benefits — the glowing complexions of the Binibinis on coronation night are testament enough — the real game-changer lies in how it supports overall health.

Anna Perez & Oliver Salas

Perez, a registered nurse who started in the industry running skincare clinics, said beauty may be the first visible effect, but long-term benefits extend well beyond appearance.

“It helps strengthen the immune system and heart health, supports wound healing, and even has protective effects like acting as a natural sunscreen. Some studies even point to benefits for brain health, like helping prevent Alzheimer’s,” she explained.

My Daily Collagen’s drink formula includes a carefully chosen blend of ingredients: high-quality collagen, royal jelly, elastin, hyaluronic acid, ceramide and essential vitamins. There’s also the Pico Tablet variant, designed with ultra-small collagen molecules for better absorption.

Whether consumed together or separately, the products are intended to help consumers manage internal and external challenges that come with a performance, whether on stage or in daily life.

“But you have to be consistent with it, especially to feel the internal effects,” Perez stressed.

And consistency is exactly what candidates need.

“It’s not easy to join a pageant,” she said. “The training, the pressure, it’s intense.”

The product helped the girls recover from the rigors and stressors of the competition, she said. What was even more fulfilling for them was that the testimonials were voluntary. “They didn’t just say they looked better. They felt better. They felt energized,” Perez added.

Originally rooted in sports — from staging multi-sport events like the star-studded My Daily Collagen Triathlon to supporting the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) — the brand ventured into pageantry last year to promote a more holistic view of beauty.

“We wanted to highlight balance,” stressed Perez. “There’s beauty and there’s a healthy lifestyle. They go hand in hand.”

Results should speak for themselves. On and off the stage, candidates reported better energy levels and boosted glow. “By coronation night, you could really see the difference,” Perez recalled.

That’s why My Daily Collagen renewed its ties with Bb. Pilipinas — a collaboration built not just on results, but also on mutual trust. “I believe we’re the first brand that Binibining Pilipinas renewed,” Salas said. “We’re maintaining exclusivity. We only support Bb. Pilipinas because we value our partners.”

That support goes beyond the finals night on June 15. “Our support doesn’t stop on coronation night,” added Salas. “We’re with them as they go on to represent the Philippines internationally.”

(My Daily Collagen is available at Watsons, Mercury, Landers, Shopwise, The Market Place, Rose Pharmacy, HB1 and Mitsukoshi Mall.)

WHAT if your pet could star in their own film? Well, now they can — or at least, your story with them can.

The 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝘄𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 officially launched on May 27, with a media event that brought together filmmakers, pet lovers, and champions of the animal-human bond.

This unique festival invites storytellers to showcase short films under the theme “Unleash the Love,” focusing on the real-life magic that animals bring into our lives.
Whether it's about a loyal dog, a clingy cat, or a duck that helped you heal — Pawscars wants your story. At the media launch, the festival introduced its all-star jury lineup: acclaimed indie director Arvin Belarmino, socially conscious filmmaker Joseph Abello, and industry veteran Joey Reyes, who also serves as Head of Jury.

Festival Director Mark Sakay summed it up best: “Pawscars is more than just a film competition. It’s a celebration of the unconditional love and joy that pets bring to our lives — stories that deserve to be seen and heard by everyone.”
Direk Joey, a pet parent himself, shared, “This isn’t just about filmmaking. This is about connection — the kind only pets can spark.”

Direk Arvin added, “I’ve never directed an animal before, so I’m curious and excited to see new stories that show why we love our pets so much.”

And Direk Joseph pointed out, “Sometimes, this bond with animals is the only thing giving us peace of mind. That’s why stories like these matter.”

The festival is open to all Filipino nationals worldwide, regardless of filmmaking background. No big-budget crew needed — just heart, honesty, and a camera.

Entries can be in any genre and must be 20 minutes or less (including credits), with English subtitles if in another language.

How and where to score your tickets for Puregold’s OPM Con 2025

Puregold’s OPM Con 2025, the most hotly anticipated music event of the year, is coming up on July 5, bringing together some of the biggest names in Filipino music: SB19, BINI, Flow G, Skusta Clee, KAIA, G22, and SunKissed Lola, among others.

With hordes of fans—here and abroad—raring to join OPM Con 2025’s night of revelry, Puregold senior marketing manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad excitedly says, “This is because a panalo concert means two things: a world-class show our shoppers can enjoy without breaking the bank, and a chance for our artists to give their all for the fans they love.”

Responding to the frenzy over OPM Con 2025, over 50 Puregold branches nationwide will open their doors on May 30 to shoppers looking to attend the biggest gathering of Pinoy musical artists.

And Puregold is making it easy for all Aling Puring and Perks card members. Here’s how: to receive a free ticket to OPM Con 2025, they must make a minimum single receipt purchase of groceries that corresponds to their ticket type.

The ticket types and their purchase requirements are as follows:

VIP Standing with Sound Check (PHP 7,500)

Premium Patron (PHP 6,000)

Regular Patron (PHP 5,000)

Lower Box Premium (PHP 4,500)

Lower Box Regular (PHP 3,500)

Upper Box (PHP 2,500)

General Admission (PHP 1,500)

Getting a ticket can be done in a few easy steps. First, upon arriving at Puregold, get a queueing number of your desired ticket type. Second, buy groceries equivalent to the value of the ticket selected. For Patron Regular/Premium and Lower Box Regular/Premium tickets, P-wallet cash in receipts will be accepted.

Next, present your Aling Puring or Perks card, queuing number, and receipt at the Enlistment and Confirmation booth where the transaction number will be logged. Remember, keep the receipt or take a picture of it as the transaction number will be the exclusive code needed to redeem tickets at the Ticketnet Online website.

Only members whose names appear in the Aling Puring or Perks cards may redeem their free tickets via Ticketnet Online any time from June 9 to June 22, 2025. Members must therefore make sure to create an account on the Ticketnet website.

Members should take note that they may only claim a maximum of one ticket per transaction. They may claim either a maximum of two tickets for Patron Regular/ Premium or a maximum of four tickets for Lower Box Premium/Regular, Upper Box and General Admission per member. If a member makes more than two qualified transactions, only the two transactions with the highest amounts will be honored.

Adults securing tickets for minors should keep in mind that minors must be accompanied by an adult ticket holder on the concert day. A waiver must also be accomplished upon entry to the Philippine Arena. The minimum age allowed in the VIP soundcheck section is 10 years old, while other tiers may have children as young as 4 years old.

EastWest Bank credit card holders are likewise in luck. Cardholders of good standing may participate in an advanced pre-selling to be held in participating Puregold branches on May 28. Afterwards, they may claim their tickets from Ticketnet Online between June 6 and June 8, 2025.
