‘Wishful Journey’ telecast set for July 15 on ABS-CBN’s ‘Sunday’s Best’

FANS and supporters of the singing group Wishful 5 can now relive the most memorable moments of their musical journey!

On Sunday (July 15), ABS-CBN will air a two-hour special via the station’s “Sunday’s Best” featuring the vocal quintet’s victorious stint at Wishcovery up to the successful launch of their debut record titled “Wishful Journey.”

A product of Wish 107.5’s online singing competition, the newly-formed singing group is composed of Wishcovery grand winner Princess Sevillena, and runners-up Kimberly Baluzo, Louie Anne Culala, Carmela Ariola and Ace Bartolome.

Princess, Kimberly, Louie Anne, Carmela and Ace were the top finalists of the competition that aired from September 2017 until March 2018.

The five artists clinched a recording deal with Star Music, one of the country’s biggest record labels, through a partnership with Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI). BMPI is Wish 107.5’s content provider.

The landmark venture of the two music industry giants paved the way for the release of the Wishful 5’s “historic” album, which instantly received both Gold and Platinum Record awards during their well-attended concert at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on June 19.

“This is the first time that a new artist signed our label received this much support. Their fans are very loyal,” said Jonathan Manalo, Star Music’s Head for Audio Content.

BMPI also offered the rising stars a five-year management contract through the BMPI Talent Center.

‘Wishcovery’

An initiative of Kuya Daniel Razon, the CEO and President of BMPI, the program “Wishcovery” aims to give chance to “those who are aspiring to be known in the world of music.”

Wishcovery is a fresh innovative platform that showcases the musical prowess of Filipinos, earning the nod of hitmaker and Wishcovery resident reactor Jungee Marcelo.

“I just want to tell [Kuya Daniel] to never stop doing things like this because it really blesses a lot of people -- people who really need a break,” shared Marcelo in an interview.

Marcelo is set to return for the sophomore season of Wishcovery. He, together with six more esteemed composers -- Noel Cabangon, Boy Christopher, Moi Ortiz, Rannie Raymundo, Vehnee Saturno, and Top Suzara -- are tasked to discover seven singing gems who have the potential to become the next big OPM star.

MOR STATIONS NATIONWIDE UNITE FOR STRONGER MOR PHILIPPINES

MOR 101.9 remains to be the FM radio of choice for most listeners in Mega Manila, and together with 16 other MOR stations nationwide, is set to become a bigger and stronger FM radio station for kaMORkadas in different parts of the country with MOR Philippines.

According to a recent survey by Kantar Media in Q1 of 2018, MOR 101.9 Manila got the highest average audience share of 33% among all FM stations in Mega Manila. This is 12 percentage points higher than its closest competitor’s 21%.

Aside from MOR Manila, most MOR stations in the country have also conquered the radio airwaves in their respective regions. Thus, a stronger MOR network will soon go on air with MOR Philippines.

DJs of MOR 101.9

Under MOR Philippines, 17 MOR stations will unite to bring listeners from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao one vibe and one sound.

Aside from quality radio entertainment, MOR also champions original Pinoy music or OPM and honors the talents of Filipino artists and songwriters via its annual MOR Pinoy Music Awards.

Among the nominees for Song of the Year this year are “Titibo Tibo” by Moira Dela Torre, “Demonyo” by JK Labajo, “Sampu” by Jona, and “Shanawa” by Maymay Entrata.

Maymay, Moira, Alexa Ilacad, and Yeng Constantino compete in the Female Artist of the Year category, while JK, Inigo Pascual, Christian Bautista, and Noven Belleza battle it out in the Male Artist of the Year category.

For Album of the Year, the nominees are Rivermaya’s “Sa Kabila ng Lahat,” Gloc 9’s “Rotonda,” Jona’s self-titled album, and JK Labajo’s “JKL.”

Gracenote and Chito Miranda, Jona and Boyband PH, and Elisse Joson and Mccoy De Leon are all vying for the Best Collaboration of the Year award.

The popular McLisse loveteam is also nominated in the OPM Revival of the Year category for their song “Opposites Attract,” up against Moira Dela Torre’s “Sundo,” JK Labajo’s “Beautiful Girl,” and Kaye Cal’s “Why Can’t It Be.”

BoybandPH, meanwhile, makes their second appearance on the nominees list with their song “Boyfriend,” which is up for LSS Hit of the Year. The group is competing with TJ Monterde’s “Tulad Mo,” Noven Belleza’s “Tumahan Ka Na,” and Kim Chiu’s “Okay Na Ako.”

“Cebuana” by Karencitta, “Waray Love Bisaya” by Polzkee and Ai, “Yayay” by Piyaok Band, and “Dvoena” by Pao Lofranco are nominated for Regional Song of the Yeay, while Kisses Delavin, Maris Racal, Tony Labrusca, and Noven Belleza are competing for Best New Artist.

Last but not the least, MOR also honors digital artists with the Digital Artist of the Year Award. Among the nominees areAgsunta, Karencita, Ex Batallion, and Ben&Ben.

Optical Media Board supports Globe's anti-piracy advocacy '#PlayItRight'

THE Optical Media Board (OMB) expressed recently its full support to the #PlayItRight anti-piracy advocacy of Globe Telecom by helping educate the general public against malware, cyber security threats and access to illegal digital content and torrent sites.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said that the support of OMB, a government agency dedicated to combat piracy, is a big boost to the #PlayItRight campaign.

“We are grateful to OMB for recognizing our advocacy on anti-piracy. Our partnership will reinforce our educational drive against the illegal distribution of copy-righted content to a greater reach,” Cu explained.

“The internet has become the main source of almost all the copy right infringement content nowadays and we need all the help we can get. We are encouraging the OMB to invite other stakeholders as well such as the cinemas to collaborate with our education drive to target the moviegoers,” Cu added.

OMB Chair & CEO Atty. Anselmo B. Adriano said that the biggest problem of OMB is the big market for pirated videos out there because people don’t know why they should not buy pirated materials.

“In as much as we try to be creative in our enforcement and disrupt the distribution chain and the retail chain for pirated video, there is still a big market for it. This is why we need to target the market through education. This is the reason why we are partnering with other organizations and companies like Globe to push for more education,” Adriano exclaimed.

The OMB will also actively participate in the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) of Globe that teaches responsible use of the internet to children in public schools by including illegal downloading of illegal content online in the training module.

Having partnered with global and local content creators and distributors for its content business, Globe has taken an active role in promoting legitimate sources of online content. In 2017, the company launched the #PlayItRight advocacy to help the entertainment industry curb piracy and protect intellectual property rights.

The OMB has been successful in curbing out pirated movies, music and software in DVDs nationwide and educating the public against illegal cam cording in cinemas through the years. The OMB is created pursuant to Republic Act No. 9239 under the Office of the President to regulate the production, use and distribution of optical and magnetic media in the country.

ZAZIE BEETZ: DOMINO OF LUCK IN "DEADPOOL 2"

DEADPOOL comic creator Rob Liefeld is a fan of his character’s movies. “Ryan made “Deadpool” a little dirtier. He brings that extra-edgy material that works. He’s perfect for it. They’ve taken great liberties with the R-rating and I think it found its own niche. I’m thrilled that there’s this different muscle that Fox gets to work out,” enthuses Liefeld.

ZAZIE BEETZ

“I am an artist who wanted to write because I got control of the content of my visuals,” continues Liefeld. “That’s where the battle is won - the visuals win the day in terms of cool. I still turn my head at a cool “Deadpool” drawing, whether I drew it or not or if I see him in real life. That red and black looks magnificent. While “Deadpool” spans comic books to actions figures, The best version is what they’ve done with these films because they’ve put the utmost care and love into them and they haven’t betrayed the comic. They take some liberties, but they’re sticking true to the sources, and they should, because there is a fan base out there. X-Force is the second best-selling comic of all time. I thought that would not stand. Twenty six years later, now I know it’s never going to fall.”

As well as giving Deadpool and Cable life, Rob Liefeld also created Domino, introducing her in New Mutants #98, the same issue in which Deadpool debuted. Liefeld says, “Deadpool took everybody down in the course of 10 pages, and Domino took Deadpool down in one page! She’s capable. She can go toe-to-toe with anybody, especially Deadpool and Cable. She is a badass combatant with a unique power. It’s an unknown power of probabilities, kind of a luck power. She’s wonderfully unpredictable in that way.”

Liefeld was delighted with the casting of Zazie Beetz. “I cheered the day they cast her. I thought, ‘she’s perfect,’ because who else is going to stand toe-to-toe with Ryan and take none of his crap? And Zazie as Domino has achieved that. It’s just a great dynamic.”

               

“I feel very honored to be bringing the role to life,” says Beetz, “And be the first live action Domino, to be entrusted with that. I’m black, and she doesn’t look black. That did concern me, but I really appreciated it when Rob Liefeld told me that he’d never assigned a race to her. And if you read the comics, she has different aliases that are very international names.”

“Domino is lucky,” says Beetz. “I think that because she’s sort of jaded, she takes it for granted. She’s sarcastic and sardonic. She goes head to head with Deadpool, and doesn’t take his shit. Domino does her own thing. She’s not really a sidekick, she holds her own. She’s a mercenary and does her job and then heads out. She knows what she’s got, and it’s interesting because that can open up the discussion of where does that luck end and begin? Because her past is quite tragic. I find it an interesting juxtaposition. She’s lucky, but to what extent? If everything just works out for you, then what’s the point in even being motivated to do anything? She struggles with that a lot.”
