Jamie Miller Makes His Debut in the Philippines for a Solo Fan Meet in Manila

INTERNATIONAL pop sensation Jamie Miller, the singer-songwriter behind the hit “Here’s Your Perfect”, is set to visit the country to finally meet his Pinoy fans!

The British singer will be performing live this coming September 30 at 5PM for his first ever Manila fan meet at Ayala Malls U.P. Town Center Activity Center, which the mall announced last Saturday, September 16.

“Get ready to see @jamiemiller in person at his very first fan meet in Manila! Join us at the U.P. Town Center Activity Center on September 30th. Stay tuned for more exciting updates, Townies!”, the mall said in their post.

In 2021, Jamie’s song “Here’s Your Perfect” pushed him into the spotlight, garnering over 380 million streams, charting at number 100 on the Spotify Top 200 and securing the second spot onSpotify’s Global Viral Chart. The single’s streak continued as it spent 13 weeks on the Billboard Global 200 EX Chart and 2 months in the Global Top 100 on YouTube Music.

On July 19, Jamie released a new version of his single "Maybe Next Time" featuring OPM artist Moira Dela Torre.

His new EP, "The Things I Left Unsaid", has been announced for release on October 4 via BMG.

Alongside this announcement, Jamie has shared his latest singles No Matter What and Empty CRoom, following the success of Maybe Next Time, which has amassed over 30 million streams globally across platforms with its original and alternate versions.

“The Atom Araullo Specials” Explores the World of ‘Children in Conflict with the Law’

THIS Sunday (Sept. 24), The Atom Araullo Specials presents a riveting and thought-provoking episode in a powerful documentary exploring the lives of minors entangled on the complex web of crime and conflict within the heart of Manila via “Batas Bata.”

In this episode, Atom Araullo investigates the lives and experiences of these young individuals, attempting to shed light on the challenges they face and the reasons that lead them into a world of crime.

One of the central stories explored is the shocking incident involving a minor who shot his neighbor, an incident captured on CCTV. The alleged motive behind the shooting was a dispute over a debt, sparking a contentious debate about the responsibility of minors involved in such crimes. With the minor’s 18th birthday looming, the question arises: should he be incarcerated to serve time for the crime he committed?

The documentary also delves into the corners of Manila, where gangs frequently erupt. Some minors are deeply embroiled in these conflicts, often using dangerous weapons like basketball bats and even samurai swords. These young individuals claim to be accustomed to this perilous world and admit to criminal activities such as stabbing rival gang members.

Another eye-opening story is the children who become hitmen, driven by the pursuit of protection and money. Araullo confronts the harsh realities of their lives and the factors that drive them down this perilous path.

Adding depth and hope to this exploration is the return of the former detained Daga to the youth center where he once stayed. Daga finally has turned his life around and is now a hotdog sandwich vendor in Divisoria. He not only serves meals to the children at the facility but also imparts valuable lessons to prevent them from becoming entangled in conflict or crime once again.

“The Atom Araullo Specials: Batas Bata” is a gripping journey into the lives of these children. It raises crucial questions about the existing legal framework and whether it adequately addresses the unique challenges faced by these young individuals. During their recent visit to the Cannes Film Festival, the Nathan Studios team, in collaboration with veteran actress Lorna Tolentino and 888 Films International, secured the rights to the critically acclaimed Japanese drama film 'Monster' (Japanese: 怪物, romanized: Kaibutsu). Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and penned by Yuji Sakamoto, 'Monster' is not a run-of-the-mill dramatic film. It bagged the Best Screenplay award at Cannes and is a testament to the intricate art of storytelling.

'Monster' marks a significant milestone for director Kore-eda, as it's the first time he has directed a film he didn’t write himself since 'Maborosi' in 1995. Moreover, its score holds a very special place in cinematic history, being the last project by the legendary Ryuichi Sakamoto, who died of cancer two months before its release. The film stands as a tribute to his memory.

Having its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on 17 May 2023, 'Monster' competed for the Palme d'Or, further highlighting its emotional depth and resonance. The film was subsequently released in Japan on June 2, 2023.

At its core, 'Monster' is an emotional exploration of adolescence, deceit, and the consequences that arise from them. Through the eyes of three different characters, the film demands patience from its viewers, promising a payoff filled with well-earned emotional revelations.

The narrative revolves around Minato, his mother Saori, and his classmate Eri, each offering a unique viewpoint on the unfolding events, revealing buried truths that troubled all the characters. Kore-eda's exceptional camera work, combined with Sakamoto's tender script, creates a cinematic masterpiece that helped its cast deliver emotional performances.

After watching 'Monster', Sylvia Sanchez, Ria, and Lorna were deeply moved. The film resonated with them on multiple levels, touching them as mothers, children, and human beings. That prompted them to acquire the film with an eye toward sharing it with Filipinos.

"It's a poignant narrative about love, anti-bullying, family, and mental health," shares Ria.
