A tribute to all mother’s and a tribute to humanity: DAWN CHANG TO STAR AS MADAM INUTZ IN MMK MOTHER’S DAY SPECIAL

IN her first lead TV role, Dawn Chang brings to life the colorful personality and unfiltered humor of Daisy Lopez, or as many know her, the viral online seller, Madam Inutz. Together with Susan Africa, Gino Roque, and Pamu Pamorada, MMK is set to premiere a two-part Mother’s Day series this May 7 (Saturday) and May 14 (Saturday). 

At first Madam Inutz couldn’t believe that people are actually interested to know about her life story. She shared, “Ayoko talaga i-share kasi siyempre ‘yun yung mga panahon na gusto kong kalimutan, yung hirap. Pero at the same time, naisip ko bakit hindi. Gusto ko magbigay ng inspirasyon sa mga tao.” 

Dawn, who was tasked not only to portray the hilarious antics and loud personality of Madam Inutz but also to bring to life the real Daisy Lopez, a hardworking yet fierce mother to her 3 children and a caring daughter to her sick mother, shared “I’m here to give a wonderful show. I don’t want to simply look like Madam Inutz, I want to be her. Not just the physical aspect, but who she is to her core.” 

Grateful for the opportunity, Dawn shared how she actually manifested and prayed to play a challenging role like this one. “I had to use all the pain I experienced in the past to bring out such bravery for this character, the real Madam Inutz,” Dawn explained her preparations for the role, including practicing cursing a lot which comes naturally to Madam Inutz. 

Before Daisy Lopez became “Madam Inutz,” she grew up in a family with nine siblings, under the care of her sick mother, played by Susan Africa. Driven by love for her family, she tried different jobs here and abroad, ventured into online live selling and eventually gained fame as viewers were entertained by her unique drunk-style interactions. It even changed her life as it landed her a spot on the reality show Pinoy Big Brother as “Ang Mama-Bentang Live Seller Ng Cavite.” 

Director Raz Dela Torre believes Madam Inutz’s story is not just a Mother's Day tribute but a tribute to humanity. “This will teach the viewers to get to know deeper the people they meet around and to not jump to conclusions, because all of us are going through different things,” he said.

Monsour Del Rosario, Raffy Tulfo, and General Guillermo Eleazar Gain Strong Support from Isabela

SENATORIAL candidates Monsour Del Rosario, Raffy Tulfo, and Gen. Guillermo Eleazar  have joined forces in their campaign, championing their common goal to serve the Filipino people. Dubbed the “New Idols of the Senate,” the trio appeared together in a grand held on May 5 in Cauayan, Isabela – Tulfo's hometown.

Monsour Del Rosario has been in public service for nine years. After leaving showbiz in the late ‘90s, he served as a councilor in District 1 of Makati City for six years, until becoming a congressman from 2016 to 2018. During his three-year-term in the 17th Congress, he passed 292 house bills and resolutions, including the Telecommuting Act, better known as Work From Home Law, which became very useful to many Filipinos workers when the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in 2020.

CINCO DE MAYO FILM FEST GOES TO FDCP CINEMATHEQUE CENTRES

 

THE Embassy of Mexico, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) brings to Filipino audiences, Cinco de Mayo Film Fest. 

The festival will be running from 05 to 08 May at the Cinematheque centers in Manila, Iloilo, Davao, Nabunturan, and Negros.

The Embassy of Mexico and FDCP want to celebrate one of the most popular Mexican Festivities around the world, screening a cinematographic sample of Mexico`s cinema industry. With such a wide array of films to choose from, viewers of all ages, backgrounds, and interests will surely find a film that will leave them wanting more.

Cinco de Mayo Film Fest will open its doors to moviegoers with five (5) thought-provoking and award-winning movies from Mexico. These films include Maquinaria Panamericana (2016), a film by Joaquin Del Paso, showcasing the effects on workers of the death of their boss to surreal and engaging impact with no prospect of employment elsewhere, no retirement fund, and worst, the company is in bankrupt. The film was awarded Best Mexican Film & FIPRESCI Prize at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, Best First Film at the Tucuman Film Festival, and Best Film at the Leyva Film Festival.

Maquinaria Panamericana will be followed by romance movies such as Leona (2018) by Isaac Cherem, and Novia que te vea (1993) by Guita Schyfter. Both films showcased the upsetting reality of traditional families in which characters have to take important personal choices. Such films show a sentimental, more romantic side of Mexico’s industry and also cater to the Filipino’s appreciation for such a storyline.

Included in this festival are Cria Puercos (2018) by Ehecatl Garcia, which storyline focuses on the grief that the death of the antagonist’s husband and the absence of her son leave in her life until a piglet comes along, and Más Amanceres (2013), a masterpiece of Jorge Leyva, distinguished as the 'Best Debut Film' at the 2013 Guanajuato International Film Festival, about the lives of two children and how their actions affect each one of them.

FDCP Now Accepting Entries for 'Pelikulaya: LGBTQIA+ Film Festival'

 

IN celebration of the upcoming Pride Month this June, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will once again be spearheading the “Pelikulaya: LGBTIA+ Film Festival,” on June 10 to 26, 2022 which will be held in hybrid format.

The Agency opened its call for entries for the local short film competition last April 13, 2022 and will be accepting entries until May 13, 2022.

Pelikulaya, now in its 2nd consecutive year, aims to champion equality for the members of the LGBTQIA+ community and transcend the notion of acceptance as mere tolerance but as genuine understanding and celebration of diversity.

As one of its featured events, the Pelikulaya LGBTQIA+ Short Film Competition is still accepting submissions of 20-minute short narrative films completed within the last 2 years (January 2020 - May 2022) by Filipino members of the LGBTQIA+ community. 

With this year’s theme, “Pantay-pantay, Iba’t ibang Kulay!” Pelikulaya endeavors to spotlight the more underrepresented members of the community with a special focus on trans visibility. Interested applicants are encouraged to tackle the less talked about, less understood identities, and experiences within the LGBTQIA+ community to further promotion of equality and acceptance of differences.

The competition will be giving away cash prizes of up to Php 35, 000 for the winners of Best Short Film, Best Director, Audience Choice Award, Special Jury Prize, and Special Mention. 

Ten short films will be selected to be part of the finalists which will be announced on June 2, 2022 and will be showcased at the FDCP Cinematheque Centres from June 10-26, 2022. More details about  the screenings will be unveiled in the coming days.

FDCP Chairperson and CEO, Liza Diño shares, “We have always believed in the power of films and of storytelling in transcending boundaries of gender and biases. Pelikulaya is not just a film festival, it is an effort and a movement towards raising awareness, calling for equality, and a way of showing allegiance to the causes of the LGBTQIA+ community.” 

Aside from the Short Film Competition, Pelikulaya 2022 will feature  LGBTQIA+ themed feature film showcases, special opening and closing films, and special Pride  events at FDCP’s  Cinematheque   Centres   in   Manila,   Iloilo,   Negros,   Davao,   and Nabunturan; and will also be available online through the FDCP Channel. The complete guidelines for Pelikulaya LGBTQIA+ Short Film Competition are as follows:

• Submissions must be films completed from January 2020 - May 2022.
• Open to all Filipino filmmakers who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
• The   completed   narrative   short   film   should   depict   narratives   with   the   theme: “Pantay-Pantay, Iba’t Ibang Kulay” to celebrate the ongoing movement toward equality, diversity, inclusivity, and visibility for the members of the LGBTQIA+ community. To further advance this cause, we are encouraging participants to submit narratives that feature the underrepresented members of the LGBTQIA+ community— especially those that depict trans visibility in society. Other examples of themes to explore include discrimination in the workplace, same-sex unions, coming out, and characters challenging the stigma associated with the members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
• The completed narrative short film should be a live-action or an animated film. Experimental and documentary films will not be accepted.
• The completed narrative short film must not exceed the total running time of twenty (20) minutes, including the opening and closing credits.
• All music,   graphics,   video  clips,  and  other   proprietary  materials  used  in  the participant’s entry must be original and/or have all the proper licenses for use by the participant.
• Only entries that have not been featured in other local and international festivals and competitions, and those that have not won in other film competitions, are qualified to join. Films previously featured in school and inter-collegiate competitions may still join.
• Selected entries as finalists must not withdraw from the competition.
• The   decision   of   the   Selection   Committee   and   Board   of   Jurors   is   final   and irrevocable. The board reserves the right to not give an award in any category should no entry merit it. The organizers and the judging committees are not obliged to provide explanations for the results.
• FDCP reserves the right to create, revoke, and modify at any time, in any way, its entry requirements, rules, and regulations at its absolute discretion without prior notice. Finalists and submitted entries shall be bound by any amendments or addition to the entry requirements, rules, and regulations herewith.

Submissions are still being accepted until May 13, 2022. In order to make an official entry to the competition, here are the requirements:

• Brief resume, HD profile photo, and a copy of the government-issued ID of the filmmaker
