#TeamGoodBoy encourages the Filipino youth to innovate and come up with solutions that help address the nation’s problems.

Kim Seon-ho, K-Drama star and Globe’s latest ambassador invites students, young professionals, and entrepreneurs to join the country’s first and biggest 5G Hackathon by Globe and De La Salle University’s Animo Labs.

KIM SEON-HO

“Join this year’s Globe 5G Hackathon so you can work on developing the uses of 5G in different sectors of the Philippine economy and society, through a series of workshops and mentorship,” Seon-ho said.

Categories will focus on the following innovations:

Seon-ho recently won the hearts of many and gave almost everyone the ‘second lead syndrome’ when he starred as Han Ji-pyeong in the recent K-drama Start-up that features young entrepreneurs who held onto their dreams and made it to Korea’s high-tech industry.

Winning teams may get as much as P500,000 at the end of the competition and will have the chance to be part of Globe’s 917Ventures’ Velocity venture builders program, and work directly with Globe 5G Acceleration Lab. After a series of workshops, idea submission, mentorship and pitching competition, the top 10 finalists will move on to develop their prototypes using Globe's 5G platforms. Top teams will get to enjoy a total of half a million in cash prizes, a chance to develop their own business ventures backed by 917Ventures, Globe’s corporate venture builder, and further develop their product with Globe acceleration lab.

Globe 5G Hackathon will run for three months starting May 2021 and will include interactive learning sessions with technology industry leaders Novare Technologies, Intel, AWS, 917 Ventures, Huawei, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Tech Mahindra, Alibaba Cloud, Google Cloud, Microsoft, and Cascadeo.

The 5G Hackathon is part of the telco’s efforts to create a #FirstWorldNetwork in the country through a massive network upgrade and expansion program that includes the rigorous deployment of 5G sites to more areas nationwide, laying down at least one million Fiber-to-the-Home, and the rollout of more 4G LTE infrastructure.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9 which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Actor-Model Cum Fitness Owner JM Magalona, Taking Advantage of Vast Online Opportunities

THE entertainment business has been hit hard by the global health crisis but actor-model JM Magalona still triumphed over many trials with the help of a tapsilogan business and digital tools from Globe.

Taking advantage of vast online opportunities, JM was able to pivot from being a showbiz personality cum fitness owner, to a food entrepreneur selling products online.

For his “Kuwento ng Tagumpay”, JM turned to his love for the popular delicious Filipino dish “silog” as well as to available technology in order to start anew after his career and gym business suffered due to strict community quarantine measures.

He studied the “eatery” idea which was long stuffed in his back pocket and revised it to fit the current times. With an initial capital of P6,000, a borrowed refrigerator and his own culinary chops, JM launched “Project Tapsi.”

“Sabi ko this is it, bubuhayin ko ‘to, irerevise ko ‘to na para kayang gawin sa pandemic. Ginawa ko siyang delivery,” narrated JM. “Nagpost ako online para makita nila ng produkto ko,” he added.

For his business, JM uses his LTE-powered Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi which allows customizable, high-speed, plug and play internet connection; and GCash for cashless transactions via the mobile phone, making it easier, safer, and more convenient for customers to pay for their orders.

Many Filipinos like JM are looking towards digitalization to bridge the gap between how things were versus what they are now, which is why Globe continues to reinvent itself and find new ways to serve the changing needs of the people.

“Ganda-ganda ng pasok ng income. May events at commercials ako, and yung gym, maraming tao. Smooth lahat. Tapos nung mangyari ang COVID, nawalan ako ng pag-asa. Devastating talaga.  Hindi ko naisip na sa pagsubok na to, mayroon palang pag-asa,” said JM who went from stressed to blessed in just a few months of putting up Project Tapsi.

Thai Superstars: Nonkul Chanon, Gulf Kanawut & Mario Maurer Headlines TNT’s “Kilig Saya” Campaign with Sue Ramirez and Sarah Geronimo

NONKUL CHANON, MARIO MAURER & GULF KANAWUT

TNT, the biggest prepaid brand in the Philippines, has signed three of Thailand’s most popular actors led by Nonkul Chanon (Bad Genius), Gulf Kanawut (TharnType: The Series) and Thai superstar Mario Maurer (Love of Siam, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Pee Mak).

As TNT’s newest ambassadors, the Thai trio will headline TNT’s “Kilig Saya” campaign with the Philippines very own Sue Ramirez and Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo.

TNT’s move comes as more Filipino youth have turned into big fans of Thai series and films, giving in to the so-called Thai Invasion, a term used to describe the phenomenon of Thailand’s growing prominence in the international pop culture scene.

“Filipinos and Thais have always had mutual appreciation for each other’s wealth of entertainment content, but we’ve seen this grow even bigger recently as more Filipinos enjoy easy access to streaming platforms and social media through TNT’s value-packed promos,” said Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.

“As TNT enables Filipinos to follow their favorite Thai superstars Mario Maurer, Gulf Kanawut, and Nonkul Chanon on their smartphone, we’re now bringing these Thai actors even closer to them as the newest TNT KaTropas in our latest campaign,” she added.

Since 2007, Thai dramas and films have dominated the Southeast Asian scene almost to the same level as K-Pop and Japanese cultures. There are even Thai idols now making waves as K-Pop performers globally.

Nonkul Chanon is best known for the film Bad Genius, which became the highest-grossing Thai film of 2017. Overseas, it broke Thai film earning records in several Asian countries, making it one of the most internationally successful Thai films ever.

On the other hand, Gulf Kanawut is best known for the highly successful TharnType: The Series, an adaptation of a popular Thai web novel. With Gulf’s growing popularity, he has appeared in various magazine covers in Thailand as well as performed in solo concerts.

But of all Thai celebrities, it is Mario Maurer who is perhaps considered as the most popular Thai actor with a massive fan base not just in the Philippines but across Southeast Asia. He is best known for his lead roles in the 2007 film Love of Siam and the 2010 sleeper hit Crazy Little Thing Called Love. He is also the lead star of Thailand’s highest grossing film of all time, Pee Mak, which grossed over U$33 million in both domestic and international box office receipts.

NONKUL, MARIO & GULF

“TNT’s passion is to bring the youth together through fun and happiness. We recognize their remarkable spirit and perseverance to overcome all odds, wo we’re very excited to showcase how they find joy even in the hardest of circumstances in our newest campaign featuring the Thai superstars they admire,”

But hindi lang artista, anyone can start a movement. Just make sure na alamin mo muna ‘yung tama sa mali and make sure na may ginagawa ka rin for that movement. Hindi mo lang siya ginagawa for social media. Iba ‘yung nangyayari sa social media at iba rin sa totoong buhay.”
